With political unrest transforming the world around us once again, you could ask, “why would anyone go to a destination wedding”?
Well…I guess it all depends on how you define “destination”!

Ideally, the charm of a destination wedding allows the couple and guests to visit a wonderful, usually warm locale sharing a day or two of vacation-like activities prior to the exchange of vows. With added expenses of flight and overnight accommodations, usually less guests attend, and bond even more closely. Destination weddings are a great option for second marriages, blending families, and sun lovers. Generally, married couples will return home to host a party celebrating their union with guests who could not afford the time or the extra dollars often required to travel.

Take a look at the news these days and you may want to add “safe and secure” to “adventurous and tropical” to your list of qualifying characteristics when describing your perfect destination wedding.

So, put away your passports and take a closer look around your state, your region, your own country for a place to fit the bill.
A destination wedding can be as close as the Jersey shore, Cinderella’s Castle in Florida, or as cozy and comfy as family Inns in Lancaster, PA, Cape Cod, or Virginia.

Find location inspiration by reviewing your personal passions. Boating? Cycling? Sailing? A wedding is a reflection of who you are and who and what you love! So, if you adore skiing, think Colorado or Sun Valley, and provide a weekend filled with fun in the snow! Artists? Book a bus tour for your guests to see some of the multiple and amazing murals decorating the streets and building facades of Philadelphia, the city with the most public art in the USA Big fans of baseball? Invite your guests to witness your marriage in the ballpark, followed by stadium tours and dinner and dancing under stars and in the stadium. Fashionistas may choose Manhattan, inviting less guests but treating all to broadway tickets on the night they arrive.

Don’t forget you can plan your nuptials in sync with regional special events, including everything from charity bike rides and marathons, food and wine festivals, etc., and coordinate your wedding date with activities in mind for guests to watch or join.
Create extra activities like murder mystery nights, winetastings at vineyards with accommodations, or cities with museums, zoos, ball clubs, or symphonies offering special group tours and packages! Your guests will enjoy something adventurous and may be grateful to avoid any challenges posed by foreign travel.

With a country as large and diverse as our own, can you imagine the many “destination” weddings are possible?
If you have redefined the traditional “destination wedding” to stay within the confines of the US, add a comment to the blog to share with everyone else!
